This special sponsorship blog was written by a long-time team member and sponsor, Bev, who recently had the opportunity to spend time with her sponsored child in Guatemala. Read about her experience below!
What is prayer? Spending time with the God we love, praising Him, adoring Him, confessing to Him, petitioning Him and listening to Him.
What a privilege we have as believers to come before the throne of God almighty. We can trust He will listen and that He will answer.
While in Guatemala this year, I had the opportunity to come before God in prayer with my sponsored child, Brenda, and her grandmother, AnaMarie. Brenda and her grandmother came to see me while I was at the Malnutrition Center, where we had a fun time trying to communicate with each other as neither of us spoke the other one’s language! We had a Spanish/English picture book we went through and also played outside in the courtyard.
Love speaks many languages.
When it came time for them to leave, God, in his perfect timing, sent Olivia walking by. I asked Olivia if she would interpret as I prayed with Brenda and AnaMarie before they left. What a beautiful and special few minutes! The presence of the Holy Spirit was there as we prayed together.
As I was praying aloud in English and Olivia translating to Spanish, AnaMarie was also speaking aloud in Spanish. After they left, I asked Olivia if AnaMarie was praying too. Olivia said “Yes!” and that Brenda’s grandmother was praying for me, her granddaughter’s sponsor, thanking God. That was a humbling and sweet time; something I will never forget.
“I love the Lord because He hears and answers my prayers. Because He bends down and listens. I will pray as long as I have breath!” Psalm 116:1-2
I would like to encourage everyone to pray for these children. If you have the opportunity to go to Guatemala and meet your sponsored child, pray aloud with him or her and their family. While you are not with them, be in prayer often for them. If you are not a sponsor, pray for the children, families and staff at the Center. It means so much to them and God does mighty work through the prayers of His people.
The power of prayer is not that I speak but that God listens and then answers in His good timing.
I have seen many children through the years come back for their food basket and to visit their sponsors! To see these children growing and healthy because of all One More Child does, and through the power of prayer, is such a blessing. We have a faithful and compassionate God!
Pray, pray, and then pray some more!
Changing a child’s life through sponsorship is not just “their” story, it can also be YOURS. Start your journey by sponsoring a child today!
