Today we began day 4, the last day of this week, with a hike up the mountain to overlook the beautiful community of El Carrizal. As we began this short hike, we encountered a rocky upward slope, but the team stuck together and lent a helping hand to those who needed it. Reaching the top, the team stood in awe of God’s creation. This whole week we had seen the community up close and personal, visiting houses and painting them, but now the view was zoomed out. Several team members had been coming for a few years now and they marveled at how God had worked in this community and the change they saw. A few years back, there were only a few houses, no speed bumps, no church, no trash collection points, and not many children running and playing. Now, 66 colorful houses stand with the church at the center of the community and God’s handmade mountains and trees as a painting in the background. It was very evident that Christ’s hands have been and always will be over this town and this country. Heading back down the hill, we prepared for VBS with the children. None of the team was ready to say goodbye afterwards. After many hugs and happy and sad tears, the team departed El Carrizal knowing that this wasn’t a goodbye but a see you later, as they had already begun planning for the upcoming year. This week was definitely one to remember, with many different God moments and new experiences, including house visits, where several people accepted Christ.
