“Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” Ephesians 5:1-2
The Women of Compassion team arrived in Guatemala on Saturday, and despite many of us never having met each other, our immediate bond served as a sweet reminder of the beauty of God’s perfect design for the body of Christ. It’s one of the many blessings that flow from being in Christ… anywhere we go -whether across the street or across an ocean or across the globe- where we encounter followers of Christ, we find family. I’m amazed at how quickly this group of ladies (plus our mascot, Cesar!) came to feel like longtime friends. That kind of immediate sisterhood can only be explained as Christ living in us.
What a great anticipation we’ve felt as we have prepared to meet these children that we have already been lifting up in prayer for so long! As we have spent the morning holding and feeding and playing and loving on these tiny people, God is revealing to our hearts His very nature. How awesome is the constant reaffirmation that we serve a powerful and loving God, that does not wish to rule our nations, but our hearts! That likewise, he will hold us and nurture us and love on us as we struggle to grow, until the day that we are ready to go home.
Much has changed since the Women of Compassion trip only one year ago! One More Child was able to bring a nutritionist on board early this year, and her knowledge and expertise has had a great impact on the speed with which these babies are recovering. Children are gaining their strength and reaching a level of health that allows them to go home and be reunited with their families at a much faster rate. First of all, what a joy for these families, but also, what an exciting thing that beds are open and the Center is equipped and ready to take in more babies! One More Child is in a position to be able to minister to a staggering number of children in the coming months, at the rate that they are able to nurse babies back to health and send them home to their families. It’s such an exciting thing as a Woman of Compassion to come back one year later and bear witness to the very visible and tangible results of powerful prayers, and most of all a powerful God. As Cesar pointed out during our morning devotions yesterday, God is on the move! And we are seeing it in a powerful way here in Guatemala.
