Every January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day invites us to pause and reflect—not only on his profound accomplishments in advancing equality and justice, but also on the work he began that remains unfinished. Dr. King called our nation—and our world—to see one another with dignity, love, and respect, not with malice or contempt in our hearts. He challenged us to act and to bring justice to places where injustice remains.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

— Martin Luther King Jr.

This call reflects the heart and mission of One More Child. We see some of the greatest injustices that persist in our world: children going hungry as their parents desperately try to provide, families torn apart by poverty or violence, and vulnerable children coerced into sexual exploitation.

We step into these devastating realities with the offer of hope, healing, and freedom. We meet tangible needs, empower families to thrive, and provide spiritual encouragement grounded in the love of Jesus. But how exactly do we continue Dr. King’s mission?

At One More Child, we accomplish this through three key pillars: prevention, intervention, and advocacy.

Prevention

First and foremost, we seek to prevent injustice before it occurs. A complex mix of factors can lead to poverty, broken families, hunger, and exploitation. Using trauma-informed approaches, One More Child steps into communities where patterns indicate children and families may be at risk of crisis situations.

Our Single Moms program is a key preventative effort. We equip moms with the skills, resources, and confidence they need to care for their children and avoid crises such as homelessness or family separation. In some cases, we also support moms already facing these challenges. Recently, a single mother was accepted into our residential program, gaining the stability she needed to be reunited with her children.

Through our Family Support program, we also strengthen families before the child welfare system intervenes and families are torn apart.  Through this ministry, we see families break cycles of poverty, lead their families with dignity, and create safe, stable homes for their children.

Intervention

Despite our desire to prevent crises from occurring, we understand that many vulnerable children and families are already in crisis. That is why One More Child provides intervention services—offering emergency care, direct support, and ongoing assistance to meet immediate needs.

A major focus of this work is providing vulnerable children with loving, safe homes. Through our Foster Care program, we license and support Christian foster families, equipping them with training, resources, and encouragement to care for the children placed in their homes.

We also intervene in one of the darkest spaces in our world: trafficking and sexual exploitation. Our Anti-Trafficking program provides direct care services to survivors, assessing their needs, connecting them with essential resources, providing clinical support, and offering mentorship as they pursue emotional, physical, and mental healing. Our teams also participate in law enforcement operations to recover individuals from trafficking and exploitation.

Advocacy

Finally, we believe lasting change grows when systems work together to protect vulnerable children and strengthen families. One More Child engages in advocacy at the state, federal, and international levels, championing policies that align with and advance our mission. Our subject-matter experts provide trusted insight and thought leadership across local, state, national, and international policy spaces.

Most recently, One More Child leadership held our 2026 Traffick Stop in Tallahassee, Florida. During this multi-day advocacy effort, our team met with legislators and government leaders to share our mission and emphasize the critical need for collaboration in the fight against human trafficking.

Persistent and Urgent

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”

— Martin Luther King Jr.

One More Child continues in prevention, intervention, and advocacy efforts because the need to help others is persistent and urgent, as Dr. King reminds us.

Without those willing to step into the hard spaces with the offer of unconditional love and hope, injustice will continue. And so long as God continues to bless our ministry, we will continue in this important work.

So now, we have a persistent and urgent question for you: Will you join us?
