Living in a rundown house in Colombia is a young boy named Yeilverth, along with his two sisters, his parents, his cousin, Oscar, and his grandmother Martina. Yeilverth and Oscar are sponsored children through One More Child and receive consistent support through the program.

However, their old house posed a threat to their well-being, that if left unaddressed would lead to further complications for the whole family. Their house was on the verge of collapse, flooding every time it rained and falling apart as cold weather and mud contaminated the interior, exposing the children to disease.

Yeilverth’s father, Jimmy, had the skills to rebuild the home, but lacked the funds for the materials he needed for this project. The family waited in uncertainty until they received word from One More Child’s ministry that thanks to the generosity of sponsors, their home could be restored. Our ministry provided the materials needed to rebuild the home, and Jimmy is leading the restoration, with the help of the whole family.

Everyone is pitching in to rebuild their home step-by-step. What was once a fragile shelter made of rotten boards is transforming into a safe, sturdy house. As their neighbors look on in admiration of the transformation of the house, they also see an inward transformation of the whole family. For over a year, Yeilverth, Oscar, and their family have been attending church, experiencing discipleship, and growing in their faith. God is working in their lives to take care of their physical and spiritual needs. This family is building a firmer foundation, not just for their physical home—but for their faith in Jesus.

Their restored house is a powerful symbol of shelter and a family’s renewal for a brighter future.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”  Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)
