“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (ESV)

Scripture calls us not only to follow the Word of God, but to teach our children to do the same. In Colombia, a group of devoted moms took that calling to heart—and now, their young daughters gather each day to read the Bible.

It started with Keren and Isabella. Wanting to nurture a love for Scripture, Keren’s mother encouraged her daughter to begin reading the Bible each day with her friend Isabella, who is sponsored through One More Child. For a few days, it was just the two of them, opening Scripture together.

But it didn’t stay small for long—others began to notice. Two other sponsored children, Dalesca and Genesis joined Keren and Isabella to read the Bible together.

Before long, the four girls read through the entire book of Genesis.

After each reading, they reflected on the scripture and shared thoughts or questions. Their mothers sat nearby, listening, guiding, and gently answering questions along the way.

Then, more classmates asked to join. Some could not even read yet, but they came eager to listen to Scripture and be part of this community. The group grew to nearly ten girls, moving together from Genesis to Exodus, then Leviticus, and now into Numbers.

These young girls return to the Word each day—eager to listen, eager to learn. What started as a simple habit has grown into something deeper: a hunger.

Each time they finish a book, they are enthusiastic about continuing. Multiple girls have shared their aspirational goal of reading through the whole Bible.

These young children of God are not only developing the discipline of reading Scripture—they are growing a love for His Word, rooted in community. We praise God for blessing these girls not only with the tangible and spiritual enrichment of child sponsorship, but with a community devoted to the love of Scripture.

Join us in prayer, asking that He would continue to guide them, deepen their understanding, and draw them ever closer to Him through His Word.
