Because drinking water contamination is a dangerous and prevalent problem in Guatemala, vulnerable children and struggling families often get sick because of contaminated water diseases. Understanding this serious reality, One More Child provides a water filter for each of the families in our program.
Our Global program had been able to provide 60% of our sponsored children’s families in Guatemala with filters when West Bradenton Church donated 145 more. They even joined our One More Child Global team on a mission trip this summer to deliver some of the filters in person!
Raily was one of the sponsored children whose family received a new filter. Before they received their filter, Raily and her family often drank water from a contaminated water source. The family would boil the water before drinking it when they could, but the purification process was time-consuming and expensive. As a result, the children were often ill, kept home from school and from playing with friends. With the filter, the family immediately started to feel better.
