Human trafficking is one of the world’s most profitable criminal industries, generating more than $236 billion from forced labor today, according to the International Labour Organization. Behind these corrupt profits are victims in desperate need of hope, help, and support.

One More Child’s Anti-Trafficking efforts seek to bring healing and freedom to survivors, not just in the United States, but around the world. One of our strongest global Anti-Trafficking partnerships is the Secretariat against Sexual Violence, Exploitation and Trafficking in Persons (SVET) in Guatemala. SVET is a government agency responsible for coordinating the country’s efforts to prevent, combat, and respond to sexual violence, exploitation, and human trafficking.

Recently, One More Child team joined SVET and Asociación La Alianza (ALA), a Guatemala NGO that serves child survivors of trafficking and sexual exploitation, for a press conference in Guatemala that highlighted SVET’s campaign, “Hilos de Libertad,” or “Threads of Freedom.”

Threads of Freedom

The Hilos de Libertad Initiative seeks to strengthen awareness, prevention, and citizen commitment to combat the heinous crime of trafficking. The initiative features a commemorative bracelet made by victims of human trafficking, representing their story, bravery, and journey of healing. The bracelets are a symbol of solidarity with survivors and an invitation for others to join the fight.

Every bracelet tells a story. Every thread represents a life that deserves freedom.

The Threads of Freedom initiative is done in collaboration with the Blue Heart Campaign, a global initiative led by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime that raises awareness about human trafficking and promotes solidarity with victims.

SVET, Asociación La Alianza, and One More Child invite individuals, corporations, organizations, and churches to join this initiative and become bearers of a message of hope, prevention, and solidarity.

In Guatemala, you can connect with SVET,  Asociación La Alianza, or One More Child’s Guatemala ministry.  Together, we can weave networks for a Guatemala free of Human Trafficking.
