FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

One More Child Opens New Compassion Center in Jacksonville

Ribbon cutting event celebrates expansion of Jacksonville campus to reach more children and families in need

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., — One More Child recently celebrated the opening of its new Compassion Center in Jacksonville. The 25,000-square-foot center will serve as a ministry hub and donation center to provide tangible goods, such as food, clothing, household items and life-changing services to vulnerable children and struggling families in Duval County and the surrounding area. It will also serve as a resource distribution center for partner churches and ministries across Northeast Florida.

In Duval County,

  • Nearly 150,000 people are experiencing food insecurity.
  • Every day, around 1,000 children are in foster care.
  • And nearly 42,000 families with children are struggling to meet basic needs— with almost 60% of those households led by single moms.

City of Jacksonville leaders, including Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters, Director of Community Initiatives Charles Griggs, Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce President Daniel Davis along with local nonprofit organizations, pastors, volunteers, and community members gathered to celebrate and tour the new facility.

“We work best when we work together,” said Stephen Robert, president and CEO of One More Child. “Through this ongoing collaboration with so many committed and faithful partners, we can have a profound impact on this city – offering help and hope to children and families in their greatest time of need.”

In addition to the Compassion Center, plans are underway to build multiple homes as part of One More Child’s Single Moms program. These homes will provide safe, secure housing in a setting where single moms will have resources and emotional support as they work hard to provide for their children.

Mothers enrolled in the residential program will live on campus with their children for up to a year. One More Child staff and volunteers walk alongside each mom through mentoring and training as they grow towards long-term independence and family stability.
