This June, One More Child is celebrating our Child Sponsorship program, which provides food, clean water, medical care, education, and the opportunity to hear the Gospel to children in developing countries.

Child sponsorship is a simple way to make a big impact in the lives of vulnerable children and families. You can plant seeds of hope today!

The Impact of Your Generosity

Imagine what you can do with $42.

At your favorite ice cream shop, you and your friends could get eight single scoops (plus the inevitable free samples). At your go-to coffee shop, six lattes (five if you splurge for the cold foam). Four appetizers shared with the family (though if teenage boys are involved, it may turn into a battle for the mozzarella sticks). One month of your two favorite streaming services (just long enough to catch up on the shows you’ve been meaning to finish). Or a one-month gym membership (motivation not included).

For some of us, it’s a fun, “treat-yourself” amount of extra cash. For others, that $42 is a critical grocery run, tank of gas, or utility bill. We know that for many families, dollars have to stretch further than they used to, and One More Child is equipped and ready to help families facing this struggle.

But for those who have the blessing of some financial breathing room—what if that $42 went toward something that doesn’t melt or expire? As great as ice cream, cold foam, and curling up with your comfort show are, what if it went toward feeding a family, providing education and medical care, and building lasting hope?

That is the opportunity provided by child sponsorship.

For just $42 a month, you can change the life of a child in a developing country, and your $42 can go further than you ever thought possible.

The Batten family experienced this firsthand.

Sacrificial Giving

Husband and wife, Sam and Sam (yes, they share the same first and last name), Batten’s passion for child sponsorship began with a mission trip. In partnership with One More Child and their church, they served on a mission team to Costa Rica and fell in love with the community and transformation taking place. While on this mission trip, they chose to sponsor a young girl on the spot and left Costa Rica with their hearts full.

After returning home, the Battens could not get the children of Costa Rica off their minds. God continued to impress upon their heart the impact of child sponsorship and the needs of children in Costa Rica. They led several others in their church to sponsor as well, but they still had this conviction to do more.

Then at home, Sam went into his garage and looked at his motorcycle, a beautiful Harley and one of his most prized possessions. As he looked at this bike, all he could think about was the command to the rich young ruler in Mark 10:21, “Go, sell all that you have and give to the poor.”

Feeling the burden of these words of Jesus, Sam talked with his wife, and together they decided to sell his motorcycle and put the monthly payment toward sponsoring more children.

Sam and Sam understood that gospel-centered generosity is sacrificial giving, and they chose to follow God as He revealed exactly how this looked in their lives.

While we all have different capacities, convictions, and commitments, the Lord’s call to generosity remains the same for all who follow Him.

You can answer the call to generosity today by sponsoring a child in need with One More Child!
