In the narrow lanes of a crowded slum, where the sound of quarrels often drowns out laughter and the temptations of the streets—drugs, gangs, and despair—pull young hearts away from hope, one place shines like a bright light. This ray of hope is One More Child’s Feeding Program and Day Care Center.
For children like Kamal* in South Asia, this after-school program is more than a place for a warm meal. It is a refuge, a haven, and a house of prayer.
Kamal is a bright 8th-grade boy who comes to the center faithfully every day. Recently, life at home became unbearable, as his parents’ fights turned into deep wounds, and soon talk of divorce filled the air. For over a month, Kamal watched his family fall apart. With his mother and two sisters, he moved to his grandmother’s house, carrying with him a heavy heart and deep confusion. At school, his mind wandered. At home, he felt no peace. One day, unable to hold it in, Kamal broke down in tears at our center.
Thanks to our trained social workers and loving mentors, we were able to sit with him as he opened up, listening and praying. We reminded him of God’s promises: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
But One More Child doesn’t just care for immediate needs—our desire is to find long-term solutions. Together with the local pastor and team, we visited his family, shared the Word of God, and prayed over their home. At first, both mother and father refused to reconcile. But our team felt led to fast and pray, trusting God for a miracle and believing that He can change hearts and relationships.
And God answered.

Today, Kamal’s parents are reunited, their home is filled with peace, and Kamal is once again smiling, studying diligently, and dreaming big. He often tells our staff, “If I didn’t come to day care, I don’t know what would have happened to me. Here, I found peace, prayer, and hope.”
One More Child is honored to point the vulnerable and hurting to God’s promises in difficult times and inspire others to believe in the power of prayer. Thanks to the feeding program, we can build relationships in communities like these, and witness God’s transformative work take place.
