The following is an adapted excerpt from an article submitted to One More Child by Adam Hollingsworth. We are grateful for the opportunity to share this story with generous supporters like you, in the hope that it will make a difference in the life of one more child.

Our last day in Uganda has come to an end. Earlier today, we made a six-hour journey back to the airport in Entebbe and now we have 24 hours of flying before we arrive back home Thursday night.

As with every trip here, my mind is swirling Overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the Ugandan people, burdened by the needs that are never-ending, excited by the spiritual, physical, and financial investments of so many, and motivated to find more ways to do more things to help more people.

HINES UGANDAN MINISTRIES

The ministry we served with, Hines Ugandan Ministries, was started 27 years ago by Katherine Hines. At the time, Katherine was a young, Big Six accounting professional in Denver with a heart for Africa. She followed God’s calling on her life, beat the odds, and overcame many obstacles to create a thriving ministry in Kamonkoli and now Soroti. Today, there are more than 300 sponsored children, 150+ children in her Genesis Primary School, and 200 patients per week treated in the medical clinic.

Katherine’s home serves as a children’s home where 14 children live. Over the years, she has raised more than 100 children in her home, and there have been more than 1,000 sponsored. Today, most of them are successful professionals, mothers, and fathers who, thanks to God’s love and Katherine’s help, are using their gifts to make a positive difference in their home country. I also find their love for Jesus profound. Katherine is making disciples at the same time she is feeding, clothing, housing, and loving.

TRANSFORMING LIVES

The partnership Hines enjoys with One More Child has been a game changer. In just over 10 years, One More Child has put fuel on the fire, adding school buildings, a medical facility, new sponsors, and more donors to support the mission.

The transformation is remarkable from struggling children to successful university graduates and budding professionals like my friends Goma and Izzy.

To be a small, small part of what is happening here in Uganda is a blessing beyond measure.

When you first arrive in Africa, you are told that a part of your heart is left here. I never believed it until it happened to me. Part of my heart is permanently here in Uganda, the Pearl of Africa as Winston Churchill once called it.

When it comes to wanting to help meet more needs, my heart is bigger than my wallet.
Will you join me in prayer for how to help even more and for the obedience to follow God’s work among the people of Uganda? I have no doubt He will lead us where we need to go.
