Mission Update from One More Child

Every week, the leadership and staff of One More Child come together for prayer and devotion to celebrate the encouraging progress in our ongoing mission to serve vulnerable children and struggling families, all for the glory of God.

Here is a glimpse into the recent good news, activities, and accomplishments at One More Child:

A Successful Operation Merry Christmas

Last month, One More Child held Operation Merry Christmas, a toy drive that provided gifts to children in our care through our Anti-Trafficking, Foster Care, Family Support, and Single Moms programs. Businesses, organizations, families, and individuals said “yes” to becoming an “agent for joy,” gifting donations and volunteering their time to make Operation Merry Christmas possible.

In total, Operation Merry Christmas impacted 860 families, provided toys for 1,997 children, and distributed more than 6,000 gifts.

For many foster families, the event serves an essential role in ensuring foster parents can provide fun and exciting gifts for all the children in their care—without worrying about the financial impact.

One foster mom (pictured here) was so overwhelmed by the generosity of donors and the kindness of the volunteers that she was moved to tears.

Another foster mom (pictured here) had just welcomed home a tiny foster baby from the neonatal intensive care unit—she felt especially blessed by the gifts, wrapping materials, diapers, and wipes she received.

Family Resource Center in Texas Holds Meaningful Toy Giveaway

In 2023, One More Child expanded to Texas, establishing a location for our Family Support services in Houston equipped with a Family Resource Center.

Our Houston Family Resource Center held its first annual toy and resource giveaway this past Christmas. Led by Senior Director Charletta Behn and Family Resource Navigator Bre Hawkins, the giveaway brought 90 families to the Family Resource Center. Families in attendance received toys, household items, and employment opportunities through a partner non-profit that shares the same building.

A Special Thank You

Operation Merry Christmas and all our toy giveaway events were made possible by our incredible volunteers. These selfless individuals offered their time and energy to make sure the events were successful and families felt loved. From organizing toys to wrapping gifts to praying with families, our volunteers were willing to do whatever was necessary to spread joy this past Christmas.

Thank you, volunteers! We could not accomplish our mission without you!
