There’s a line in a well-known worship song that says, “I will make room for You, to do what You want to.” That’s the heart of foster care—not just offering a home but partnering with God in His redemptive work.
Based on newly released data from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System, there are about 343,000 children in foster care in the United States. Every day, families say yes to caring for these children and open their home to fostering—some for a season, some for a lifetime. Christian families often respond with a deeper sense of calling: Here I am, Lord. Use me. And with every yes, a child’s story begins to change.
How Foster Care Can Transform a Child’s Future
Johnny’s Story
Like all children his age, Johnny* had the potential to flourish with consistent care and nurturing connection during his critical early years. When the Kramers welcomed him into their home as an infant in 2023, they understood this meant saying yes to the medical responsibilities required to support him through the challenges of dwarfism and other health concerns.
For nearly two years, the Kramers adjusted their routines and trained as needed to support his ongoing care. In their care, Johnny began to thrive, and over time, the Kramers became his home. In March 2025, they finalized his adoption, officially making him part of their family.

How Foster Care Can Make What’s Broken Whole Again

Nellie and Nina’s Story
Nellie* is a 6-month-old who has been in the care of her foster parents, the Palmers*, for nearly her entire life. When the placement team began working to reunite her with her 3-year-old sister, Nina*, who was living with another foster family, the Palmers were willing—but a few obstacles stood in their way.
Their vehicle didn’t have space for a second car seat, and their home was set up for just one child. So, they prayed that God would provide what was needed—and continued their preparations to welcome Nina in faith. As they continued walking in faith, God was also on the move. Their prayers were answered as God’s provided a clear path for a new vehicle and a rearranged bedroom space to care for both sisters.
The Palmers trusted God to make a way—and He did. Today, Nina and Nellie are together again, growing up side by side in a loving, Christ-centered home.
How Foster Care Can Have an Eternal Impact
Nayla’s Story
Five-year-old Nayla* found the freedom, support and encouragement to explore what it means to know God after being placed with a One More Child foster family.
After joining the Burtons’* home, she began asking thoughtful questions about salvation, heaven, sin and forgiveness. The Burtons eagerly responded and embraced the work the Lord had prepared for them— they walked with her and answered her questions with care, always affirming that trusting in Jesus was her decision to make.
One Saturday morning in March, sitting at the breakfast table with her foster family, Nayla made the decision to accept Jesus as her Savior.
Though they don’t have contact with Nayla’s biological mother, her foster family believes her transformation could reach beyond their home and impact Nayla’s biological family as well. They plan to invite Nayla’s biological mother to the baptism to witness how the love of God has transformed Nayla’s life.

He Called. Will You Make Room?
Foster care is more than providing a home. It’s partnering with God in His redemptive work. Each of these stories shows what happens when a foster family says, “Here I am. Send me… I will make room for You, to do what You want to.”
In 2023, One More Child served more than 2,700 foster children and placed 148 in loving forever homes through adoption, but thousands more are still waiting— for safety, compassion, and someone to show up. Whether you open your home to a child, offer wraparound services to a foster family or simply begin to pray—you can make a difference in the lives of foster children.
