As we celebrate a holiday dedicated to love, affection, and care, One More Child is inviting you into a special opportunity to share this celebration with children all around the globe.

This Valentine’s Day, choose to spread the LOVE and change ONE MORE life through child sponsorship.

What is Child Sponsorship?

Child Sponsorship puts compassion into action by providing tangible support and sharing the hope of Jesus with children living in impoverished communities in 10 different countries across five continents.

Child Sponsorship meets the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of children in developing nations.

Through our Child Sponsorship program, you can feed hungry children, meet medical needs, provide clean water to communities, give children the opportunity to go to school, and share the Gospel for only $42/month. Globally, One More Child partners with local ministries to bring transformational care to families and communities through our Child Sponsorship program and community development efforts. The support we provide varies from country to country to ensure our care is culturally relevant and community-driven, but sponsorship in all countries provides nutritious food, clothing, medical care, educational opportunities, and spiritual formation.

One More Child also prioritizes forming a personal connection between children and their sponsors. In our program, you will be able to get to know your sponsored child through exchanging letters and photos. Additionally, we also offer the unique opportunity to go on a mission trip to meet your sponsored child, during which you can visit with the whole family, see their home, and spend quality time with the child, building a special relationship.

On a mission trip to Guatemala, Sarah Weaver had the opportunity to meet her sponsored child, 2-year-old Tania. When Sarah first met Tania, she was shy and timid, but throughout the trip, Sarah built trust with Tania and made unforgettable memories. Sarah recalled Tania’s joy and laughter as they played together.  Tania carefully stacked toys in a bin and then dumped them all out—over and over again. Sarah also cherishes the moment when Tania’s mom shared her story, opening up about the hardships of raising three children, including one with special needs. Sarah described the impact of meeting her sponsored child, saying, “This visit reminded me just how powerful sponsorship is, not just in providing support, but in building real relationships.”

Does Child Sponsorship Make a Difference?

According to the World Bank, nearly 700 million people live in extreme poverty, including 17 percent of children worldwide. These children, families, and individuals endure a daily struggle to survive and meet their most basic needs, including food, water, shelter, and clothing. One More Child’s sponsorship program aims to intervene for these families and meet dire needs while also offering hope for a brighter future through Jesus Christ.

In 2013, University of San Francisco (USF) economics professor Bruce Wydick and two associates conducted a study that examined the impact of child sponsorship. This study found that the examined child sponsorship programs have “large, statistically significant impacts on years of schooling; primary, secondary, and tertiary school completion; and the probability and quality of employment… in part, [due] to increases in children’s aspirations.” This study was significant in establishing credibility for child sponsorship programs and emphasizing their positive outcomes.

Ian McInnes, former CEO of Tearfund, a Christian poverty alleviation organization, explained the results of this study saying, “Locally-run child sponsorship [programs] that invest in the lives of children over a number of years ensure that these children do not fall through the cracks. They grow up better educated, healthier, more confident and spiritually connected.”

Furthermore, Gospel For Asia (GFA) World, reports, “recent economics studies suggest that internal constraints that reflect low aspiration can lead to poverty traps… [three follow-up studies] found that sponsored children exhibited higher levels of self-esteem, aspirations and self-expectations—and lower levels of hopelessness.”

One More Child’s sponsorship program is set up to, firstly, provide tangible goods to meet dire needs of those living in poverty; but then also offer hope for a better future. By caring for the spiritual and emotional needs of children and families, child sponsorship combats low aspirations that can accompany and perpetuate the cycle of extreme poverty.

So… does child sponsorship make a difference? … YES, it does!
