One More Child’s Child Sponsorship program changes the lives of children around the globe by meeting needs and building meaningful relationships.

When you sponsor a child, you provide life-saving meals and clean water, essential medical care, vital educational opportunities, and a chance to hear the good news of the Gospel. The children served through this program live in impoverished communities in developing nations around the world—from Central America to Africa to Asia.

One More Child offers mission trips to many of our global ministry locations, providing an incredible opportunity for sponsors to witness our sponsorship program firsthand and to meet their sponsored child.  On a recent trip to Guatemala, one of the mission team members, Sarah Weaver, got the chance to meet her sponsored child, Tania.

Stacking Toys and Establishing Relationships

Two-year-old Tania was initially timid when she first met Sarah, before she let her full personality shine.

“At just two years old, she started off shy, peeking at me with those big eyes, but it didn’t take long for her sassy side to show,” Sarah recounted. “Once she decided I was alright, she grinned, wiggled her little shoulders, and went full toddler mode stacking and counting toys like a tiny accountant with very important business to handle.”

Tania lives in Guatemala with her parents and two older brothers. While her dad works in construction, her mom takes care of the three kids, including one of the older boys who has special needs. Tania’s mother loves Jesus and faithfully takes her children to church so they, too, can experience and learn of the love of Jesus.

Sarah had been praying for Tania and supporting her from afar, but in this unforgettable experience, she was able to see her in person, play with her, and establish a deeper relationship.

One of my favorite moments was watching Tania carefully place toys into a container, count them with total concentration, dump them all out, and then do it again, completely thrilled every single time. Who knew putting things in and taking them out could be this exciting? The joy on her face was priceless, and I couldn’t help but laugh at how she made even the simplest things so fun.”

But Sarah’s experience with Tania and her family extended beyond cherished playtime—she also engaged in meaningful conversations and bonding with Tania’s mom.

Sarah explained, “The most impactful part of meeting Tania wasn’t just seeing her sweet, sassy personality come to life— it was sitting with her mother and hearing their family’s story. Despite the language gap, we connected in a way that words alone couldn’t capture, sharing laughter, understanding, and a deep appreciation for God’s faithfulness in our lives. In that moment, I wasn’t sitting with the mother of a child I sponsor, I was sitting with a friend.

“She spoke about the challenges of raising three children, including one with special needs, while her husband works in construction. Yet her unwavering faith and joy shined through. Before I left, I had the privilege of praying over their family, asking God to continue providing for, protecting, and blessing them in every season.”

Sarah’s heart for the Lord, compassion for others, and resolve to care for those in need fueled her desire to sponsor a child—but she also wanted to be a good steward of the resources God provided and the calling on her heart. She wanted to sponsor a child and be confident the funds would directly serve that child and her family, meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Sarah found what she was looking for in One More Child.

Sponsoring a child had been on my heart for a long time, but I was hesitant because I wanted to be sure the support I provided would truly make a difference. As I learned more and more about One More Child, I knew this was the right organization. I could trust that every dollar would directly impact the life of the child I sponsored, and that gave me the confidence to take this step.”

Trusting in God’s steadfastness, Sarah took this step of faith, assured that One More Child would use this sponsorship to joyfully care for Tania. This step of faith provided stability, security, and hope for one more child and one more family.

Sarah described the impact of child sponsorship beautifully, “This visit reminded me just how powerful sponsorship is, not just in providing support, but in building real relationships. Meeting Tania in person made it all so real, and I walked away with a full heart (and possibly a new appreciation for stacking toys).”
