One More Child mission trips offer the opportunity to bring the hope of Christ to children around the globe and meet the needs of communities we serve. Recently, One More Child embarked on a mission trip to Costa Rica with a Baylor medical team. With the team’s medical expertise and resources, they were able to provide services that met the health needs of the community.
The team completed over 100 health consultations, which included general health, medical history assessments, and physical examinations. They also checked vitals such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and screened for common health conditions like diabetes and hypertension.
In addition to the direct health services, the team also conducted a workshop on nutrition that promoted healthy lifestyles. Participants received a brochure with more information on how they can implement and maintain the things they learned.
The services offered through this mission trip had a specific impact on undocumented mothers in extreme poverty who normally don’t have access to healthcare. With the start of the school year, mothers gained more awareness of their children’s health conditions. As a result, families were able to set specific nutrition goals and move forward with informed knowledge of their medical conditions.
The Baylor medical team’s services had a transformational impact on individuals served by One More Child in Costa Rica. Addressing health concerns, providing necessary medical advice, and facilitating free consultations contributed to improved quality of life for these children and families—and the impact didn’t stop with the end of the trip.
Armed with information and strategies for healthy living, individuals in this community have resources to better manage their health conditions and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. As a vital part of the team’s mission to this community, our team also shared the message of the Gospel through conversations, prayer, and serving with immense love and compassion.
We are grateful for the team’s impact on the communities we serve in Costa Rica—both in the short term by meeting medical needs and in the long term by sharing life-changing health information and the hope of Jesus Christ.
