Rani is a determined 10-year-old girl living in South Asia whose short story is a testament to the sustaining power of hope and faith.
James 1:2-3 reminds us, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” This scripture mirrors Rani and her mother’s journey as they navigate societal exclusion and health challenges.
After her father died from AIDS, Rani is being raised by her mother, who bravely battles HIV. While Rani is blessed by being able to participate in One More Child’s ministry partner program in the region, day-to-day life is challenging. Despite her dire circumstances, Rani dreams of becoming a doctor with her sheer determination to succeed and her daily prayers for a better future as her hope. Her mother’s faith journey and recent baptism is a significant milestone in her own spiritual journey.
But their strength to persevere does not just come from within. Recently, a One More Child mission team, inspired by Luke 6:38, generously provided the family with a goat.
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 (NIV)
Goats represent both physical sustenance and socio-economic stability for struggling families, playing a crucial role in lifting them out of poverty. They offer a wide array of products and socio-economic benefits. Goat’s milk is not only a source of nutrition, but it can also be sold to provide financial stability. And while these are both meaningful contributions to a family’s survival, in God’s abundance, Rani’s new goat also gave birth to four kids!
In ancient times, livestock often symbolized wealth and divine blessings.
“The Lord has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him flocks and herds” Genesis 24:35 (NIV)
