A New Partner
High in the Andes mountains in Peru, many children grow up in remote, poor communities with few resources, unable to learn skills necessary for adulthood. Youth from these communities often grow up in dependent care or group homes and don’t have the support and skills to thrive on their own. However, JCP ministries, a new One More Child ministry partner, is positioned in this community to provide care and education to youth in need.
Jovenes Con Proposito—which translates to Youth with Purpose—or as they’re also known JCP Ministries, has served vulnerable youth in Cusco, Peru since 2016. They work with youth as they age out of group homes, focusing on emotional, social, spiritual, and life-skill development.
Over a three-year span, these youth develop skills needed to live on their own and complete a degree or certificate program before leaving JCP. In the next month, several individuals in the program will earn nursing, graphic design, and other degrees.
The Vision to Make an Impact
Recently, One More Child’s Presidential Vision team had the opportunity to travel to Cusco, Peru and meet with JCP Ministries. During this trip, President and CEO Dr. Jerry Haag, Christi Haag, and other One More Child leadership and staff were able to discuss how this new partnership will best serve vulnerable youth in these communities.
The team met with groups and individuals who were similarly united in the mission to help Cusco’s struggling youth flourish, including JCP staff, local pastors, and local government officials. Our team had the honor to discuss Cusco’s greatest child welfare needs with representatives from Peru’s Supreme Court, national police force, anti-trafficking office, child hunger office, and a local pastor’s association.
Dr. Haag shared information about One More Child’s transformational programs with these community and government leaders and how the new partnership with JCP makes a difference in the lives of youth in Cusco. As a part of this partnership, One More Child leads Trust Based Relationship Intervention, or TBRI, trainings and trauma-informed trainings on a regular basis.
The Mission Moves Forward
One More Child’s global teams are on a mission to bring love and transformational care to every child in need in the developing world. Our partnership with JCP Ministries propels that mission forward in Peru. This partnership will empower local leaders to serve and support struggling youth, provide education and resources that will inspire growth, and share the truth of Jesus through love and compassion.
We can’t wait to see God move in the lives of children and families in Cusco, Peru!
