Mission Update from One More Child
Every week, the leadership and staff of One More Child come together for prayer and devotion to celebrate the encouraging progress in our ongoing mission to serve vulnerable children and struggling families, all for the glory of God.
Here is a glimpse into the recent good news, activities, and accomplishments at One More Child:
Anti-Trafficking
One More Child Anti-Trafficking in Tennessee received a generous donation from Christ the King Church in Memphis – 25 beautiful backpacks packed to the zipper with comfort items for survivors in our care! They graciously hosted us for an after-church luncheon to pack the bags, provided full-size backpacks, and accepted a small offering for One More Child during the lunch. It was truly wonderful. We presented our AT101 training during the event while volunteers enjoyed their meals. It was encouraging to receive such support from our community for survivors. Thanks from Tennessee!
Child Hunger
The Child Hunger program has several “good news” updates this week! At the beginning of the week, attendees at a special event learned about One More Child as they packed more than 3,000 meals that were then donated to a school in Miami. On Wednesday, another event was held at Willow Oak Baptist in Mulberry, where 2,800 backpack meals were packed for Mulberry Middle School. Lastly, First Baptist Bayshore, a long-time meal-packing partner of One More Child, joined the effort on Saturday, packing more than 25,000 meals. Bayshore kept 10,000 meals for their community and donated the rest to be dispersed throughout the Lakeland area. Family Support
Recently, we made our usual weekly check-in calls with families involved with our Hope for Youth program. These check-ins also include asking how the families were with the amount of food and other essentials in their homes. We had three families who reported they were in need, so we met those tangible needs, which included food, toiletries, and other items. One family had ten individuals living within the household, so we packed extra items for them. They live within 100 yards of our office, so we know there is a real need literally outside our doors. It is a privilege to honor God to go beyond serving families through our programs and meet basic needs many take for granted. Our mission is to serve vulnerable children and the whole family!
