The year was 1984...
The United States was navigating a period of cultural transformation. Just a decade earlier, the landmark Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade had legalized abortion nationwide, igniting debates that reverberated through politics, faith communities, and homes across the country.
Against this backdrop, President Ronald Reagan, a steadfast advocate for the unborn, took a bold step. On Jan. 22, 1984—the 11th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision—he issued a proclamation establishing National Sanctity of Human Life Day.
Reagan’s proclamation affirmed the value of every life, urging faith communities, organizations, and individuals to stand for the unborn and vulnerable. Pastors preached powerful messages, churches held prayer vigils, and organizations rallied around the cause, offering compassion and tangible support for women facing unplanned pregnancies. Nearly 40 years later, the work continues.

Answering the Call
Since 1984, the need for life-affirming services has only grown. Today, One More Child’s Sanctity of Human Life program partners with more than 200 pregnancy care centers, clinics, and life ministries. Last fiscal year, through these partnerships:
- 25,251 clients were served with direct care and resources.
- 2,196 clients were presented with adoption.
- 1,027 babies were saved from abortion.
Each number tells a story; each story signifies transformation—lives spared and hope renewed.

- Post-Abortion Care: For women seeking healing from past decisions, we provide grace-filled support.
- Opportunities to Hear the Gospel: Sharing the hope of Christ and the truth of His boundless love.
A Historic Turning Point
In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization marked a watershed moment for the pro-life movement, overturning Roe v. Wade and returning the power to regulate abortion to the states.
This decision was a victory for life, echoing the vision President Reagan laid out nearly 40 years ago. Yet, the Dobbs decision also reminds us that the work is far from over. Women still face unplanned pregnancies, vulnerable children still need support, and communities still need to rally around those seeking hope and guidance.
