FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Community Foundation of Sarasota County Partners with One More Child to Help Sarasota Single Moms
SARASOTA, Fla. – The Community Foundation of Sarasota County awarded a $25,000 grant to One More Child’s Single Moms program in Sarasota to help single mothers provide for their children while building a brighter and more sustainable future.
One More Child’s Single Moms program is designed to empower single mothers who are seeking support, stability and encouragement as they work to improve their lives and create a more promising future for their children.
Over the course of one year in the residential program, mothers receive skills training, mentorship and an extended support system needed to achieve self-sufficiency and upward mobility.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County,” said Stephanie Harrison, One More Child’s executive director of single moms. “In Sarasota County, 63 percent of families headed by a single mom do not bring in enough income to meet their family’s basic needs. This grant will help us reach and walk alongside more struggling single moms as we continue to make a positive impact on the lives of children and families.”
Funding to support One More Child’s Single Moms program in Sarasota was provided in part by the Edward K. Roberts Fund, Margaret L. Bates Fund, and the David and Faye Dorfman Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
One More Child is expanding its services in Sarasota County as plans for a Palm Garden Sarasota Campus are underway. The campus will include eight homes for single mothers and their children who are working through the year-long program.
The campus will also have the 8,500-square-foot Vern and Sandy Buchanan Children’s Center, a facility where children and families can get the support, resources, and skills training as they move towards self-sufficiency.
