Love Changes Lives
Madison* was an organized and confident single mother, working diligently in her 26-year career in hospitality, when a mental health crisis interrupted her life and disrupted all her plans. While managing her life as a mom and hospitality worker, Madison experienced an extremely traumatic event and began to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), leading to a significant decline in her mental health.
The mental health crisis caused Madison’s life to derail, but she was still determined to protect her children during the instability. She sought help and resources but was waitlisted to receive this vital support. After four weeks of waiting, hoping help would come, a One More Child staff member showed up at her door and told her, “We have a home for your family.”
Our team helped Madison and her children get established in the Single Moms residential program. This 12-month program offers a path to self-sufficiency for single moms in need by providing housing, mentorship, financial and educational assistance, parenting and life skills classes, community support, and spiritual guidance.
In this program, Madison was able to focus on getting her life on a productive and positive path, while ensuring her children were protected and safe. She raised her credit score by over 200 points in just 10 months, paid off all her debt, got involved in her community and her children’s schools, and started trauma therapy. Her children also received services that set them up for a journey of healing and a brighter future.

More than anything, Madison expressed her gratitude for experiencing the love of God through One More Child. Madison shared, “[The One More Child team] loved me, listened to my children, and saw me as a valuable person, worthy of wonderful things.”
“[The One More Child team] loved me, listened to my children, and saw me as a valuable person, worthy of wonderful things.”
Experiencing this kind of love changed the course of Madison’s life.
According to Madison, she and her family are now “walking in faith,” and she wants to use the support she’s received to help other mothers who are going through similar struggles. Madison’s future is no longer plagued by uncertainty, anxiety, and anguish; her future is now defined by stability, peace, and joy found in Jesus Christ.
