At a recent gathering at One More Child’s global headquarters in Lakeland, FL, Dr. Haag and the board of directors reflected on the organization’s impactful work in 2023. Last year, 250,259 children and individuals received direct care services. Additionally, the organization distributed more than 19 million meals nationally and globally with the help of 140,000 individuals who said “yes” to training, volunteering, and awareness efforts.
During the board meeting, a trafficking survivor leader led the group in a Red Sand event. Board members and staff poured red sand into sidewalk cracks, symbolizing the survivors and victims of child sex trafficking who are overlooked by the systems and societies meant to protect them.
Human trafficking, characterized by recruitment, harboring, or transporting individuals for commercial sex through force, fraud, or coercion, affects nearly 25 million victims worldwide. It is a sobering reality that someone you know, whether a neighbor, friend, or relative, may be impacted.
One More Child remains dedicated to offering healing and hope to survivors while tirelessly working to prevent further exploitation. ”[I am] blessed to work alongside such a mission-driven board to ensure that NO vulnerable child will ‘fall through the cracks,’” Dr. Haag expressed.
The event underscores One More Child’s ongoing dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of survivors. In 2023, One More Child provided Christ-centered trauma-informed care to 1,007 clients and reached 12,969 individuals through education, advocacy, and awareness initiatives.
