Hunger is not something only children in underdeveloped countries are challenged with. Today, one in seven children struggle with food insecurity and hunger in America. In the post-COVID world we live in, One More Child’s weekend meal bags for students are more imperative than ever, and church partners are helping families with meals.
MEETING A NEED
Backpack Meals provide food every Friday throughout the school year. Each bag contains food to provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the weekend. Recently, one of our loyal partners, First Baptist Church of Garfield, took the call when their sponsored school informed them they had a child of a single mother who needed additional assistance.
According to the mother, the child’s father left them, taking their EBT card with him, and she stayed at home with the child. She did not have any income, nor did they have any food in the house. The teacher connected the mother with the church, who was a partner with One More Child, and met the child’s needs and empowered the mother to feel more secure in her ability to provide.
HUNGER IN THE COMMUNITY
For most students served by One More Child’s Backpack Meals Program, hunger is not the only issue they are facing, but it is a challenge that we can tackle together. Providing food is a special way to share the love of Christ. We are so thankful for partners like First Baptist Church of Lake Garfield that hear the call and say, “Yes.”
HELP HUNGRY CHILDREN
Help families through meals you give! Backpack Meals are a simple, cost-effective way to provide life-changing food for children who otherwise may go hungry during non-school hours. We collaborate to work with church and business partners to provide food every Friday throughout the school year.
