Since 2016, One More Child has been committed to supporting single-mom families. Throughout our experience, we have witnessed the unwavering dedication of many single moms who tirelessly work toward providing a stable life for their children. Despite their relentless efforts, these moms often find themselves on the brink of crisis.
In the United States alone, more than 24 million children reside in single-parent households. To address this reality, One More Child’s Single Moms Community program reaches single mothers in cities across the United States. Through partnership with church communities, this program creates a supportive and empowering resource, offering programming to meet the unique needs of moms in their respective communities
HOW DOES OUR SINGLE MOMS PROGRAM WORK?
The Single Mom Community program is backed by volunteers who have a heart for helping and uplifting single mothers facing tough situations. This team, including coordinators, facilitators, and mentors, forms a “Mom Tribe” that runs the 10-week program in their community with support from One More Child.
Recently, this program inspired a One More Child volunteer to become a single mom mentor. A former foster parent and kind-hearted person, Lisa had always felt a calling to serve others. After volunteering at One More Child’s Azinger Family Compassion Center, Lisa’s commitment grew when she learned about a mom in the Single Moms program who reminded her of the challenges faced by single moms during her time as a foster parent.
VOLUNTEERS MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Lisa expressed that becoming a mentor mom felt like the right role for her. She saw it as an opportunity to provide companionship, encouragement, and support to other mothers as they navigate the challenges and joys of parenting. Lisa also recognized the potential for her involvement to have a lasting impact, not only on the immediate mother she mentors but also on future generations who may be influenced by her nurturing of faith and love for Jesus.
During their time together, Lisa provided the single mom with unwavering emotional support and guidance, always lending a listening ear when needed. Lisa eagerly anticipates her ongoing involvement as a mentor in One More Child’s Single Moms program.
Lisa’s story serves as a testament to the profound influence of volunteerism, highlighting how it positively affects both the volunteers themselves and the individuals in their community.
