Through One More Child’s sponsorship program, young boys and girls receive an education when they likely wouldn’t otherwise. One student who attends school through this program is Manuel, a bright teenage boy who lives with his family in Guatemala. He just finished elementary school and was presented with the opportunity to transition into our partners’ scholars program to start his secondary education. However, his family informed our partners they would not be able to continue supporting Manuel’s education.
Our ministry partner wanted to ensure the family understood the full scope of resources available to them through One More Child’s sponsorship program— which includes food, clothes, school supplies, medicine, and educational opportunities— as well as secondary education in Manuel’s case. After the family met with our partners and had multiple discussions, the family considered the options and ultimately decided to keep Manuel in school.
Manuel is ecstatic about this decision— he is eager and grateful to continue his education. In fact, a few weeks ago our social workers visited Manuel’s home and were greeted with the smiling face of an excited teenager ready to go to school.
