Teaching Children to View Life Through the Lens of Scripture
The heart of One More Child is to introduce the grace and truth of Jesus Christ to children, especially those who are hurting or in need. In pursuit of this goal, we offer a discipleship tool called Maker’s Box™ which is specifically designed to help young hearts and minds connect with God as their creator.
Available in English and Spanish, and eight different theme options, Maker’s Box™ teaches children to understand life through the lens of Scripture through engaging lessons and crafts. Learn more about Maker’s Box and how to get boxes for your family, church, or organization.
Today, on Easter Sunday, as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we invite you to read this lesson with your family. This lesson is adapted from Maker’s Box: The One Who Loves.

Easter Sunday—Proof!
Easter is extremely significant to Christians because all that we believe hinges on the fact that Jesus defied death, showing us unequivocally that He is God. For this reason, Jesus’ death and resurrection are the very foundation of Christianity, and proof for what we believe. Why is this so important? Because as humans we want evidence for what we believe.
Thomas was a friend of Jesus who sometimes struggled with believing. He wanted proof! When we pick up his story, he was in a deep pit. He had watched Jesus suffer and die on the cross. When Thomas’ friends told him Jesus had risen from the dead, he didn’t believe them. He wanted to see with his own eyes before he would believe. In John 20:25b Thomas said to his friends: “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” (ESV)
Never believe? Wow, that’s a bold statement.
The Bible talks about proof. First of all, God gives us proof that He is real through creation. Romans 1:20 says, “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” (ESV)

We can’t see God, but we can certainly see what He created. It boggles the mind to think of it all…the earth, all animals, oceans, planets, billions of stars, sunrises and sunsets. The things He has made show us that He is God! He is our Creator. Think about it. He has handcrafted every single baby since the beginning of time! He handcrafted you! He is the One putting air in your lungs, and the One causing your heart to beat right this second. Every day we are surrounded by proof that God is real because we see what His hands have made.
Second, we have proof that God loves us. The Bible clearly spells out the ultimate proof of His love in Romans 5:8: “But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.” (NRSV) Did you get that important word there? Proves!
God gave us proof of His love by putting His blameless Son on the cross. There has never been a greater act of love than that. If for one second in your life you have doubted that you are loved, you can always go back to the cross. His love for you was settled once and for all right there. The cross is proof that you have never been unloved.
Third, the resurrection is proof that Jesus is God and Lord of all creation. Eight days after Thomas said he wouldn’t believe without seeing, Jesus came through a locked door and stood among the disciples. He asked Thomas to touch his scars and told him to believe. Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Here standing before him was the greatest proof that Jesus was who He said He was. Seeing Jesus alive again after a cruel death changed Thomas’ life so drastically that he and the other disciples spent the rest of their lives telling others the good news of the Gospel.
It’s important to remember that in this encounter with Thomas, Jesus said to him, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed?” Jesus wants us to believe in Him even when we can’t see with our own eyes. He wants us to believe in Him no matter what happens and no matter how hard life gets. It’s very important to Him that we believe what He says, so that’s why He gave us the Bible. His Word tells us what we need to know so that we can live by faith and not by sight.
One day faith will be made sight, and proof will be all around us. Until then, let’s thank Him for the proof we can see and trust Him for what we can’t see quite yet.
