The Greatest Invitation
Jesus gives us an extraordinary invitation in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” This means that Jesus is inviting you to come to Him for help.
Sometimes, because of hard things that have happened to us, we can feel like we are carrying heavy burdens. The answer is not to try to handle these things on our own. Jesus invites us to come to Him for many things, but here are just a few:
- He invites you to come to Him in order to have a relationship with God. His death on the cross made it possible for your sins to be forgiven so you could be close to God.
- He invites you to come to Him for your worth. He adores you even in your worst moments. You are precious to Him.
- He invites you to come to Him for love, because no one loves you more. His love is the greatest love you could ever know.
- He invites you to come to Him with your broken heart. He is near to the brokenhearted. As Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (ESV)
He is near! He is close and He invites you to come to Him because He wants to rescue you when your heart has been crushed. He wants to heal your broken heart, so He continually invites you. What a good and faithful God He is to ask us to come!
