This National Volunteer Appreciation Week, we want to extend our gratitude to all the wonderful volunteers who sacrifice their time and talents to amplify One More Child’s mission of serving vulnerable children and families.
Last fiscal year, One More Child cared for 250,259 children and individuals and distributed over 19 million meals—this impact would not have been possible without our volunteers. Our volunteers serve as the hands and feet of our mission, bringing our resources and services to those in need and providing much-needed support to our programs.

God Answering Prayers
Executive Director of Engagement Ray Allen shared a story that represents the impact and importance of volunteering.
“We were working with a group of high school students that were actually with us all week. Every day they’re coming in and we’re doing a different task and watching them run pallet jacks and learn how to build food boxes, which was great, but we always do a debrief. And in that debrief we talk about everything, because, again, the purpose is that your opportunity to volunteer is really an opportunity for you to learn. And so, the exposure that you not only get to the world, around you in the community, but also really, what is this doing for me as a human being? Why is volunteering important?
And one young man, as we were going around the room, he said, ‘Well, I have a question.’ I was like, ‘Great, I love questions, what’s your question?’ And he asked me, ‘How do you know that God is answering your prayers here at One More Child?’ And one, I was like, ‘Man, that’s a great question.’ And I thought about it for a moment, and I told them, ‘I know that God is answering prayers when you all walk through the door.
‘Because we can’t do this work by ourselves, and to watch a group of individuals walk through that door with smiles, ready to jump in and to help us to impact the lives of children and families. Yeah, I know God’s answering prayers every time.”
