ONE MORE CHILD
The Dominican Republic (DR) is often called the “Jewel of the Caribbean”, sharing the island of Hispaniola with Haiti on the West. Known for its many beaches and resorts, it draws many tourists every year.
Despite growing efforts to fight trafficking in the Dominican Republic, it remains to be a significant problem in the country. More than 40% of Dominicans live at risk of falling into poverty due to economic or climate-related issues. (World Bank, 2023) In partnership with local churches and national government, One More Child has helped construct a community that includes more than 94 single-family homes, a police substation, a community transformation center and a church plant. These facilities and infrastructure offer stability to a rural area that suffers from low reading proficiency and responsive paternal support (according to UNICEF).
OUR IMPACT IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Mission Trips
Ministry opportunities in the Dominican Republic for short-term mission teams include serving in the 94-home community development in the Dominican Republic. Support our partners in daily activities such as distributing food, providing medical care, helping lead youth ministries and activities that include: singing, Bible stories, crafts, sports, and games.
Child Sponsorship
To supplement the community needs, we have created a robust sponsorship program, which includes a monthly food basket for sponsored children, training for parents in health, nutrition, parenting skills, and regular opportunities to hear the gospel.
Community Development
In addition to the community One More Child helped construct, we have a hot meal feeding program for children and nursing mothers, providing adequate nutrition and health. We also continue to provide new homes for struggling families in addition to the original 94-home project One More Child partnered with the government and a local church to build several years ago.
