Eeleen was six when her mother took her to be seen by a dental/medical group on mission in Guatemala. She reported Eeleen experienced pain while eating and speaking. The team noticed a protuberance under Eeleen’s tongue. Since Eeleen has been a One More Child sponsored child since she was two, the team passed the information to our sponsorship department to investigate ways to support her.
In early 2022, One More Child and its partners in Guatemala got connected to the Moore Center, a Pediatric Surgical Center in Guatemala City that provides surgeries at no cost for children in Guatemala. By July of that year, Eeleen’s One More Child social worker referred her case to the Moore Center. The medical professionals determined Eeleen required surgery, and the Center accepted her case. Surgery was scheduled for April 20, 2023.
Eeleen, now eight years old, underwent successful surgery and has fully recovered. She is healthy and happy to be well, no longer suffering from the pain she had when eating or speaking.
Eeleen’s family is also immensely grateful for the diligence and care provided by One More Child and its partners in Guatemala.
