New York City, located in the Northeast of the United States, is the most densely populated city in the country with a population of over eight million. Often referred to as ‘the city that never sleeps’, it is known for its many skyscrapers like the Empire State Building, Central Park, and the Broadway theatre in Times Square. Holding major financial, commercial, and cultural power, it is often considered the world’s capital.

However, there are many challenges as 18% of New York residents live in poverty. A lack of affordable housing has caused a significant increase in homelessness in recent years. More than a million people in New York City are food insecure, making up 50% of food insecure people across New York state. Additionally, the average meal cost is twice as high as the national average. Join One More Child on a mission trip to New York as we partner with a local church to provide for the needs of vulnerable children and struggling families in this inner-city community!

ON YOUR MISSION TRIP YOU MAY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

• Assist in packing boxes for families in the local community for food distribution day
• Participate in an inner-city community prayer walk
• Host a community cookout & education day through a local church
• Serve foster families and single moms
• Facilitate a Back-to-School kickoff backpack drive (August)
