High-priority children have been sponsored in the past but recently lost their sponsorship support.
Juana’s family in the Dominican Republic
For a family whose life has been characterized by sacrifice, One More Child’s sponsorship program brings stability and hope. In the Dominican Republic, Juana is a single mother who does domestic work to support her six children. Despite dreams of wanting to be a doctor, she was forced to quit school in the fourth grade to help her mother.
Due to lack of space in Juana’s home, only three children are able to live with her. Two of these children—Celine and Dastian— are part of the One More Child sponsorship program. They both attend school and have their own career aspirations. Celine is 10 years old and in sixth grade, and dreams of being a doctor, just like her mom did, and Dastian is 8 years old and in the second grade and aspires to be a police officer. Sponsorship is the primary means through which Juana is able to meet her children’s needs—she is immensely grateful for this provision for her family.
Beatriz in Colombia
Many struggling families and single moms work diligently to meet their family’s needs, but sometimes find that it is still not enough. This was the case for Beatriz*, as she sought to care for her daughter’s medical needs.
As a single mom, Beatriz lovingly cared for her daughter, Alejandra.* While living in Venezuela, Beatriz noticed a deviation in her 3-month-old daughter’s eye, but when she took her to a doctor, she was told it was normal. Her mother’s intuition told her something was still wrong, but unfortunately, she did not have the option to seek another doctor
Luisa in Costa Rica
Leaders from One More Child and members of a partner church came together for a mission trip that provided critical, transformative care to a family in Costa Rica. When the mission team arrived, our Costa Rica ministry partners were in the process of relocating a mother and her children, who are sponsored through One More Child.
Luisa* and her children needed help moving out of a dangerous domestic violence situation into a safe, secure home. The team stepped in and assisted with every aspect of the move: from packing and moving belongings to painting, unpacking, and organizing the new space.
Matias in El Salvador
For Matias, the highlight of his day was when he got to play soccer. He used to attend a soccer school in his neighborhood, but after his father left for the United States, he couldn’t go anymore because his mother had to work. Not only did Matias have to deal with the emotional pain of missing his father, but his family was also struggling financially, even with his mother working long hours.
Sponsorship changed the lives of Matias and his family in more ways than one. The sponsorship program provided for Matias’s education and meals at school, which took a financial burden off the family. Matias, his mother, and grandmother also regularly attend church. Matias is in the fifth grade and feels very blessed to be a part of the sponsorship program, especially because at school, he can play soccer again.
Lidia in Romania
In Romania, a little girl named Lidia* and her family struggled to make ends meet, especially while caring for Lidia’s grandmother, Daria*. The family worked hard, but Daria’s deteriorating condition continued to weigh heavily on them. Living in constant pain and unable to perform even the simplest tasks, Daria remained bedridden and grew wearier day by day.
In the midst of their struggles, Lidia and her family receive support from One More Child through the Romanian ministry team and the sponsorship program.
Graduation in Haiti
Education has the power to create opportunities, cultivate success, and invigorate hope. For a special group of students in Haiti, access to education transformed their lives.
One More Child works with our ministry team in Haiti to provide the opportunity for children to attend school who could not otherwise. Years ago, a group of 12 students received this blessing to attend preschool when they were three years old.
Jimmy in Nicaragua
Throughout his childhood, Jimmy José faced challenges that threatened his well-being and education. Despite these obstacles, he stayed committed to his studies, determined to overcome his circumstances. Through One More Child’s sponsorship program, Jimmy received support that not only met his physical needs but also brought him spiritual growth, friendship, and inspiration to pursue his dreams.
Jimmy is now on the verge of earning his high school diploma, after years of dedication. He discovered a refuge of hope in church community, strengthening his faith in God. Looking ahead, Jimmy José has plans to acquire professional skills through a technical course to help provide for his family. He is also determined to ensure a better tomorrow for him and his people, relying on God to help him tackle any challenges that may come his way.
Doreen in Uganda
In Uganda, many people live in poverty with limited resources and no access to medical care. To meet this critical need, One More Child offers medical mission trips to Uganda.
During a recent mission trip, a team from Baylor University connected with Doreen—a young girl who lives with her family in a small hand-built home with limited resources, mainly relying on their gardens to provide for their needs. She also suffered from a painful hernia, but she could not afford the medical treatment she sorely needed.
Meena in South Asia
In a leper colony in South Asia, a teenage girl named Meena* experienced isolation and hardship, causing her to feel hopeless about her future. At 15 years old, she faced challenges living as a disabled girl in this community. Then One More Child opened a daycare here, and Meena’s outlook started to change.
For Meena, who is part of One More Child’s sponsorship program, this was a tremendous blessing because it provided her with opportunities she did not have previously due to her disability.
Soccer camp in Guatemala
In Guatemala, a mission team partnered with a church partner to put on the J316 soccer camp for the second year in a row. This unique three-day camp brought fun, joy, and, most importantly, the Gospel message to 125 children who attended. For many of these children, this was the first time they heard the hope, love, and truth of Jesus Christ. The team also connected with local pastors, empowering them to replicate this camp at their own churches and share the Gospel through sports. We pray each of these children will feel the love of Jesus and follow him!
