How You Can Help Children This Christmas

The kitchen is filled with the smell of cookies baking and imperfectly wrapped presents are placed under the tree. As the countdown ticks until Christmas morning, it is a time to remember the greatest gift of all — Jesus, our Emmanuel. Christmas is a time of celebration and tradition, all pointing back to our Savior who was born in a manger.

However, there are still parents who are struggling to provide, and Christmas time is when families are in the trenches of their hardest battles. 

As many of us wrap presents, there are children waking up without presents under their tree. The Badillo* family’s Christmas sacrifice to help children in foster care is one that reflects the goodness of God’s great work to restore struggling families.

During a busy Christmas season last year, One More Child asked the Badillo family if they could take in a group of siblings needing a home the week of Christmas. The family already had four children, so the request was made, hoping they could care for one or two foster siblings.

The Badillos decided that they could not stand the idea of four siblings being separated on Christmas Day, so they opened their home and their hearts to all four siblings.

The children arrived at the Badillo home with only a few clothing items. With the help of their community and One More Child, the Badillos provided the children with clothes, diapers, formula, and Christmas gifts! The home was filled with love and squeals of joy as the four siblings got to wake up together on Christmas morning with gifts under the Christmas tree, each with their own names on them.

And while the children may not remember their gifts on Christmas morning, they will always remember being together and experiencing significant love from their foster family. What a precious gift!
