A BOUTIQUE FOR AT-RISK TEENAGE GIRLS

One More Child’s Loft 181 is a clothing boutique for teenage girls ages 13-18, with a special focus on supporting foster care youth and trafficking survivors. Each visitor selects from a curated collection of new and gently-used clothing – all provided free of charge!

Beyond style, Loft 181 offers a transformational experience where every guest can find a loving haven of acceptance and newfound hope.

How it started

Founded in 2006, Loft 181 took its name from the number of girls in the Hillsborough County foster care system at the time. Initially situated in a space called the “Loft” at Idlewild Church, the shop has since blossomed into a beautiful standalone boutique. It now serves as an extension of One More Child, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving vulnerable children and families both nationally and globally.

Volunteers

What volunteer opportunities are available?

At Loft 181, volunteers have the opportunity to serve on Sorting Days and/or Shopping Days. These volunteer opportunities include the following:

Sorting Days:
Volunteers meet at the store on Tuesdays from 10am – 1pm to sort through all the donated items, removing anything that doesn’t meet our standards and organizing the rest to display in the store. This is a lightly active role (many of our volunteers sit while they work) without client interaction.  This is a vital component to ensure that Loft 181 is ready for shopping appointments with clients!

Shopping Days:

  • Personal Shopper: in this active role, volunteers work closely with the client, assisting as they select outfits, and connecting with them on a personal level during their shopping experience. Personal shoppers take selected clothing to the fitting room for try on, offer more options or different sizes, and pass the chosen items to the Clothing Bagger after everything has been tried on.
  • Clothing Bagger: volunteers label each client’s bag with their name as they receive the chosen items and ensure that all items are put into the correct bag. Baggers are also responsible for keeping track of each item that is added to the bag with a simply tally sheet. This is a lightly active role, and volunteers will have some client interaction.

How do I become an approved volunteer?

Prior to volunteering, all volunteers must fill out a background check and volunteer agreement:
