young future engineer and family in the DR

Five-year-old Wilmer and his sister two-year-old Wilmari live in the Dominican Republic with their parents, Melanis and Anyelo, where 40.4% of the population lives in poverty, according to the World Food Programme.

We praise the Lord that, though he had been waiting a long time, recently Wilmer was sponsored by a member of a One More Child mission team, providing additional support to this young family. He has already started pre-kindergarten and dreams of becoming an engineer. His family encourages his ambitions.

Both Anyelo and Melanis believe in the importance of education for their children. Anyelo went to work after completing 4th grade and now, takes jobs as a day laborer when he can find it. And though Melanis finished high school and aspires to become a nurse, financial constraints continue to prevent her from pursuing further education. She has only been able to find temporary, contract work.

Despite facing challenges, including the loss of two other children and unreliable work situations, the family keeps their faith, remaining ever-hopeful that they can provide a better future for their children.

This family’s resilience and commitment to each other and their children’s education are truly inspiring.

We ask that you continue to pray for this family and young families like theirs in the Dominican Republic as One More Child and our partners in the area come alongside them to help create brighter futures for their children.
